Types of lip correction

Lip lift
A lip lift is a surgical procedure that shortens the distance between the upper lip and the base of the nose. A small strip of skin is removed below the nose so that more of the upper lip becomes visible. It can be considered when the upper lip is long or has limited visible height.

Correction after trauma or a congenital condition

The surgeon selects the technique according to the complexity of the problem and aims to improve both function and appearance. Treatment may range from a limited correction to a more complex reconstruction using local tissue or, in selected cases, a tissue graft.

Preparing for lip correction
Before treatment, you will have a detailed consultation with one of our ENT surgeons. We discuss your expectations, medical history and the available techniques. The surgeon examines your lips and facial structure and recommends an approach that is appropriate and realistic.
You will also receive clear information about risks, aftercare and recovery. If surgery is planned, we prepare an individual medical plan and explain any instructions about medication, smoking, eating or drinking before the procedure.
Recovery after lip correction
Recovery depends on the technique and the extent of treatment. The following gives a general indication; always follow the personal instructions from your practitioner or surgeon.
Recovery after lip fillers
Swelling and bruising
Mild swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur after the injections and usually improves within several days.
Activity
Most people can resume normal daily activities immediately. Avoid strenuous exercise, pressure on the lips and excessive heat for the first 24–48 hours, or as advised.
Aftercare
A cool compress may help reduce swelling. Avoid intense sun and heat, and follow the practitioner’s instructions about skincare and massage.
Recovery after a lip lift or lip reduction
Swelling and bruising
Swelling and bruising are common during the first days and may remain visible for up to two weeks.
Sutures
External sutures are often removed after about 5–7 days. Sutures inside the mouth generally dissolve on their own.
Rest
Plan time to rest during the first week and avoid heavy physical activity until your surgeon says it is safe.
Food
Soft foods may be more comfortable during the early recovery period.
Aftercare
Keep the treated area clean and use prescribed ointment or mouth care as instructed. Protect healing scars from direct sunlight.
Recovery after reconstructive lip surgery
Recovery time
Recovery may take several weeks depending on the complexity of the reconstruction. Swelling is expected, and you may need to protect the treated area during healing.
Sutures and scars
Depending on the technique, sutures may be visible or placed inside the mouth. They are removed or dissolve according to the surgeon’s plan.
Aftercare
Careful wound hygiene and following every instruction from your surgeon are essential for safe healing. Contact the clinic if you notice increasing pain, redness, fever or another unexpected symptom.
